Rainy season weather often makes clothes take much longer to dry and can cause unpleasant odors. Today, I’d like to share with you a few handy tips to help your clothes dry faster during these damp days.
The rainy season has already begun, and on days with continuous rain, clothes often don’t have enough time to dry completely. Leaving clothes damp for too long can easily lead to musty smells. Let’s take a look at some effective ways to help clothes dry faster during the rainy season.
1. Use a fan to dry clothes
Humid and damp weather can significantly slow down the drying process. Using a fan is one of the most effective quick solutions. Simply hang your clothes and place a fan facing them. The constant airflow will help moisture evaporate faster, allowing your clothes to dry more quickly.
2. Wash clothes with hot water
Another way to help clothes dry faster is to use the hot water setting on your washing machine. Hot water not only helps eliminate bacteria but also makes clothes dry faster.
If your washing machine doesn’t have a hot water mode, you can soak the clothes in hot water after washing, then wring them out and hang them to dry. Heat causes water to evaporate more quickly, which helps clothes dry sooner.
3. Iron clothes before hanging them
An iron isn’t just used to smooth out wrinkles—it can also help clothes dry faster. After washing and spinning your clothes, lay them flat on a surface and iron them thoroughly. Then hang them up immediately. The heat left in the fabric will help the clothes dry much faster.
4. Use a hair dryer
Place the clothes you want to dry inside a plastic bag and seal it. Cut a small hole at the bottom corner of the bag, insert the hair dryer through the hole, and tighten the opening around it. Remember to move the dryer nozzle continuously so the hot air spreads evenly inside the bag.
Alternatively, you can insert the hair dryer directly into a pant leg or sleeve and turn it on at the highest heat setting. The hot air from the hair dryer will help the clothes dry much faster.
5. Take advantage of the heat from an air conditioner’s outdoor unit
This method is especially useful for people living in apartments, where the air conditioner’s outdoor unit is often placed on the balcony. You can hang clothes in the direction where the hot air is blown out from the unit. The high heat will help clothes dry quickly and prevent unpleasant odors.
6. Use an infrared lamp or incandescent bulb
If your home has an infrared lamp or a traditional incandescent bulb, you can make good use of it. First, hang the clothes on a drying rack and place it in a corner of the room. The heat radiation from the bulb will help the clothes dry faster.
Placing the rack in a corner allows the heat from the infrared lamp to concentrate on the clothes instead of dissipating into empty space behind them.
7. Use a clothes dryer
This is the most effective method, but it requires investing in a clothes dryer. Simply load or hang the clothes inside, turn on the machine, and your clothes will dry quickly.
